Techshot Lighting LLC receives $75,000 Vogt Award
Award recognizes excellence in local, innovative companies and enables productdevelopment and commercialization
FLOYDS KNOBS, Ind. (April 13, 2011) -- Techshot Lighting LLC, a spin-off of Techshot Inc., a product and technology development company, was honored today with a $75,000 Vogt Invention and Innovation Award by the Community Foundation of Louisville and Greater Louisville Inc.'s ENTERPRISECORP. The Vogt Awards recognize companies that display excellence in product innovation and provide engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs with grant money to fund the product development and commercialization of their ideas. The award was delivered April 12 at ENTERPRISECORP's Signature Event breakfast.
"We are very excited to receive this honor," said Techshot Lighting CEO John Vellinger. "The Vogt Award will help us ramp up to meet the demand we expect for our system."
Techshot Lighting LLC manufactures, sells and distributes light-emitting diode (LED) based lighting products for military, homeland security and disaster relief applications. Customers for its first product, a rugged and energy efficient shelter lighting system, are the United States Army and Marine Corps. Preproduction versions of the system are being evaluated by Marines at a forward operating base in Afghanistan.
"New jobs come from new ideas," said Bobby Ferreri, Executive Director of ENTERPRISECORP. "By helping transform ideas into commercialized products, the Vogt Awards not only help individual entrepreneurs, but also Greater Louisville build a strong entrepreneurial and economic climate."
Techshot Lighting received the award based on criteria such as innovative content, technical excellence, strategic business planning, competitive positioning, potential market value, time to market, and anticipated social and economic benefits for the Greater Louisville area.
The Vogt Awards honor the tradition of innovation in metro Louisville and give recipients the recognition and financial support they need to commercialize their products. The award is made possible by an endowment from Henry Vogt Heuser Sr., former president of Henry Vogt Machine Company. Since its inception in 2001, the Vogt Awards have invested more than $1.5M in awards to 18 early stage companies.
