CliniWave partnered with Techshot to develop CliniPulse, a medical device for
neuro-dermal blockade, which is targeted at increasing compliance with finger stick blood glucose monitoring by eliminating the pain barrier to testing. It also may be useful for blood draws if further testing indicates that the area of anesthesia it induces can be increased and the electrode array is transparent, allowing vein identification.

Alternate approaches to blocking pain from the small skin breach in these procedures have limitations. Current approaches to reduce pain of skin breach by chemical means revolve around the application of local anesthetic cream. These creams take from 30 to 90 minutes to become effective. Side effects and limitations include significant time delay before full effect, prolonged action (hours), as well as potential local irritant and allergic effects. Local anesthetic infiltration is effective and swift, but again the prolonged action remains and it is a trade between one type of needle and another.

The electronic CliniPulse system quickly numbs the surface of the skin, permitting a painless breach. Moments after the event, full sensitivity is regained.
